SUPPORTING QUALITY LIVE MUSIC IN ABERGAVENNY
Bristol-based Victoria includes among her influences Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Blossom Dearie, Nancy Wilson, Melody Gardot, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Betty Carter.
She’s already explored the legacy of Ella Fitzgerald and Hoagy Carmichael to the delight of audiences.
Blossom Dearie was a hugely entertaining songwriter, singer and pianist with a repertoire that juggled her own songs with standards. Her vocal sound is unmistakeable. She was a sophisticated performer and her work was full of wit and humour – sharp as well as sweet.
Victoria will feature the Dearie songbook as well as tunes by Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Cy Coleman, Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg and others. Her guitarist Denny Ilett has written some skilful arrangements and they’ll be played by a quintet featuring some of the region’s most inventive jazz musicians.
She has been dividing her time between solo work as a jazz singer, playing with a variety of musicians throughout the UK and Europe, and her role as a backing vocalist/songwriter in the internationally-acclaimed soul band, Hannah Williams and The Affirmations.
