The Fabulous Red Diesel quartet bring raw soul sounds to Abergavenny, with infectious and funky arrangements incorporating something for everyone: Latin, gypsy, blues and swing.

They have been support band for the James Taylor Quartet and signed up this year for a string of jazz festival appearances and a gig upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s.

Their seventh album, The Queensbury House Sessions, has been heard on Jazz FM. They’ve written a music theatre piece called Sparkly Bird, the soundtrack of which was the title of their last album, and they describe themselves as a close-knit group of friends with a warm and engaging presence.

Ian Bowden, of the International Rye Jazz & Blues Festival, said: ‘An amazing and original band, with excellent musicianship, outstanding arrangements and infectious grooves.’

FRD are:

  • Kat Lee-Ryan (aka Ms Kitty) – vocals, keyboards, flute.
  • Will Lee-Ryan (aka Duke Boom), drums.
  • Simon Dobell (aka Rabbiu Jaffa Delicious) – trumpet, guitar.
  • Bea Gullick – trumpet.
