Great news for BMJ – on this return visit to the Melville, the jazz-folk fusion quartet Talinka will be celebrating the Wales launch of its new album, due in the Spring.

Talinka is led by vocalist Tali Atzmon and features her husband Gilad, the celebrated saxophonist and leader of the Orient House Ensemble. It creates a fascinating mix of jazz, tango, folk, and early classical music.

The quartet performs Tali’s songs (she was a singer and actor in Israel) and also features the multi-tasking Baroque musician Jenny Bliss, playing viola da gamba, Baroque violin, and flute; she also sings. The quartet is completed by the bassist Yaron Stavi.

Tali told BMJ: ‘Talinka is a music-loving adventure. For us, the love of music extends beyond style and genre. We adhere to simplicity, harmony, and warmth.’

On its first album, the eponymous ‘Talinka’, Gilad also played bass clarinet and accordion. But, being Gilad, he adds in live performance his wit and interpolations to a unique acoustic blend. It’s a foil to Tali’s soulful and heart-rending delivery, which is just as effective in refreshing the standard songbook.

You loved Talinka the last time it was here. You’ll like it even more on its return. Come and join the celebration!
