Filming in August at Abergavenny’s Melville Theatre
Considered one of the musical geniuses of the 20th Century, saxophonist Charlie Parker, otherwise known as “Bird”, would have been 100 in 2020.
His legacy reaches across the generations, influencing and inspiring musicians across the globe. He succeeded in personifying the jazz musician as an uncompromising artist and intellectual rather than just an entertainer.
With a commentary of Charlie Parker’s complex life story interspersed with some great performances recorded live at The Melville Theatre in Abergavenny, we have created a celebration of Charlie Parker@100 that should not be missed.
Ben Waghorn brings a lifetime of professional saxophone experience, performing in wide ranging genres of music styles. He has toured extensively and has a deep passion for the music of Charlie Parker.
Martha Skilton is a sought after freelance Saxophone player. Martha a is based in South Wales, having studied at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She plays in a wide variety of jazz and music bands throughout the UK.
Jonny Bruce is a freelance trumpet player based in Bristol. Working as both a soloist and a lead player in a variety of musical contexts, Jonny has received much critical acclaim for his fiery playing.
Dave Jones is a hugely versatile pianist and composer,classically trained at Cambridge. He is the perfect choice for this fast paced, exciting and challenging gig.
Ashley John Long is a virtuoso double bassist and composer, active in a diverse range of musical idioms – including jazz and improvisation, session music, and early and contemporary chamber music.
Alex Goodyear is a widely sought after young talent. A freelance Drummer and Percussionist based in Cardiff, he recently graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
