Black Mountain Jazz is excited to welcome to the Melville Theatre the Adam Glasser Quartet.

Adam Glasser’s unique harmonica sound combines his South African roots with many years immersed in the UK jazz scene – initially playing piano with his own groups and  also for South Africa legends, such as Dudu Pukwana.

He was musical director for 16 years of the veteran South African vocal group, Manhattan Brothers.  This experience led to him producing their first album “Inyembezi” for EMI in 2006.

Since then, Adam has released two critically acclaimed albums of his own – “Free At First” (2010 SAMA Best Modern Jazz Album) and “Mzansi” (nominated in 2012 as SAMA Best Jazz Album).

Adam’s harmonica can be heard on numerous CDs – most notably with artists such Sting guitarist Dominic Miller, Brazilian vocal legend Zizi Possi and Australian fusion virtuoso Carl Orr.

His harmonica talents have also been heard in London theatre productions of “Midsummer Night’s dream”, “Scenes from the Big Picture” and “His Girl Friday”.

The Quartet also features John Paul Gard on Hammond organ, Mat Hopkins on guitar and Billy Weir on drums.
